Millipedes are detritivores, which means they primarily feed on decaying organic matter such as dead leaves, wood, and other plant material. In a captive setting, you can feed millipedes a variety of fruits and vegetables such as carrots, cucumbers, and apples. It's important to provide a varied diet to ensure they receive all the necessary nutrients. Additionally, you can also offer commercial millipede food or calcium supplements to ensure they have a balanced diet. Make sure to remove any uneaten food to prevent mold and bacteria growth in their enclosure. **

Millipedes are capable of walking both forwards and backwards. They have the ability to move in either direction by using their numerous legs to propel themselves. This allows them to navigate their environment and escape from potential threats. Overall, millipedes are quite versatile in their movement capabilities. **

Giant millipedes are detritivores, meaning they primarily feed on decaying plant material. Therefore, plants that are suitable for giant millipedes include leaf litter, rotting wood, and decomposing fruits and vegetables. They may also consume certain live plants such as lettuce, cucumbers, and other soft, leafy greens. It is important to provide a varied diet to ensure the health and well-being of giant millipedes in captivity. **

Millipedes secrete a defensive fluid from glands located on their bodies. This fluid contains a variety of chemicals, including hydrogen cyanide, which can be toxic to predators. When threatened, millipedes can release this fluid as a defense mechanism, deterring potential predators from attacking them. The secretion is often accompanied by a foul odor, further discouraging predators from preying on the millipede. **

Yes, millipedes do give off a strange smell when they feel threatened or are handled. This odor is a defense mechanism that helps them deter predators. The smell is often described as being pungent and unpleasant, and it can linger for a while. This is why it's important to handle millipedes with care and avoid causing them distress. **

To eliminate millipedes in houseplants, you can start by removing any decaying organic matter from the soil, as this is their primary food source. Make sure to keep the soil in your houseplants dry, as millipedes thrive in moist environments. You can also try placing a barrier, such as a layer of diatomaceous earth, around the base of the plant to prevent millipedes from reaching the soil. If the infestation persists, you may need to consider using an insecticide labeled for millipedes, following the instructions carefully to ensure the safety of your plants. **
